With a degree in accounting from Syracuse University in New York, Gary D. Herwitz went on to found the consultancy CoMetrics Partners, LLC. Under Gary Herwitz’s direction, CoMetrics advised on several large transactions, including the sale of the clothing brand Catherine Malandrino to Bluestar Alliance in 2013.

Bluestar is a brand-management company with an extensive portfolio of popular brands, including Mac+Jac, Kooba, and English Laundry. Catherine Malandrino is a group of clothing lines created by Parisian designer Catherine Malandrino that debuted in New York in 1998. In 2013, the brand was acquired by Bluestar from Tahari ASL, a company that manufactures women’s apparel and accessories. Bluestar CEO Joseph Gabbay commented that the Catherine Malandrino brand would be well-positioned to expand into global markets through apparel as well as home design products and other offerings.

Sold at department stores across the US, the popular contemporary lines, still manufactured by Tahari, represent a collection of elegant fashions for women that have been worn by celebrities including Beyoncé and Katy Perry.
