Managing partner of the New York City consulting firm CoMetrics for more than a decade, Gary D. Herwitz has overseen a range of successful merger and acquisition transactions. In 2013, he acted as financial advisor to the clothing brands Ecko Unltd. and Marc Ecko Cut & Sew. Gary Herwitz also worked with the parent company of these brands, IP Holdings Unltd., to secure a deal that transferred complete control of these brands to a third party, the Iconix Brand Group.
Established by designer Marc Ecko in the early 1990s, the Ecko brand name rocketed to popularity after earning endorsements from hip hop artists such as the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy front-man Chuck D. Ecko clothing and accessories are currently available in more than 5,000 retail stores around the world.
Before acquiring full ownership of the brand in the CoMetrics-brokered deal, Iconix held a 51 percent controlling interest in Ecko. In order to obtain the final 49 percent, Iconix paid approximately $45 million.
